A quaint 1940s 1 ½ story brick home located on a beautiful, tree-lined street in a quiet residential neighbourhood in Waterloo. The home is located very close to the downtown core with the ability to walk to certain areas of the city.The home had a ton of potential but needed a major update to create a comfortable living space for a small family that recently purchased it.

The home was extremely dated with a very dark entry, a small, closed in kitchen, a laundry room in the basement and no main floor bathroom. There had been a small addition added off the kitchen in the late 70s which had dated wallpaper, a green shag rug and an awkward bay window looking out into the back yard. The challenge was to create a functional yet beautiful main floor with a laundry room, bathroom and large kitchen. The owner wanted the space to feel light and airy with a focus on fine details and good quality finishes that will last.

We completed a main floor renovation of the home. The doorway from the entry into the dining room was widened to perceive the look of a larger entry. The wall between the dining room and the kitchen was knocked out as well as the wall between the kitchen and the addition.This created a much larger kitchen. A large window was added, while the bay window in the addition was turned into double doors that would lead to a new patio. To create the light and airy feel the owner wanted, the custom kitchen cabinets were painted an off white, while a focus on types of artificial light was important.The addition of general lighting, task lighting and accent lighting added to the light and airy feel in the kitchen. A main floor mudroom, laundry and bathroom were also added to create a functional main floor plan while colourful cabinetry and wallpaper were added to create a unique, eye-catching space.This project was completed early 2021.
