Previously known as The Alley restaurant, I had completed an extensive renovation, and re-design of the space in 2019. With the success of the upstairs restaurant, Braai House, the owners wanted to create an extension of the same South African theme, but in a more casual bar setting.I drew inspiration from certain colours and motifs that were used upstairs, such as dark moody greens, and the presence of foliage and fire. We also added more banquette seating, which was then upholstered in a beautiful burgundy/plum faux leather. New lighting fixtures, floor to ceiling open shelving, and framed tropical prints were the perfect finishing touches to the space.
Since this space was not initially a restaurant, the entire area had to be completely reimagined. This meant an addition needed to be added to the back of the restaurant to allow for a kitchen, whereas the front of the restaurant needed to be configured to allow for a bar.Braai is a South African term for a barbeque where the focus is on gathering with friends and family around a communal fire sharing drinks and food.
